PRIZES FOR CWD TESTING IN WYOMING – Chronic Wasting Disease continues to spread across the western United States.  State game departments are looking for ways to decrease the numbers where possible.  To accomplish the decrease in cases, more testing is needed.  The Wyoming Fish and Game are getting creative in ways to test more in the state, including giving out prizes.

Prizes for Testing Animals

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department announced that they are incentivizing hunters to submit deer and elk for testing.  The department will be offering thousands of dollars worth of prizes for testing.

“Elk and deer hunters are on the front-line helping Game and Fish to understand the distribution and prevalence of CWD by collecting and submitting samples for testing,” Deputy Chief of Wildlife Scott Edberg said. “This raffle is one way we can show our appreciation for their efforts.”

Hunters must be willing to submit lymph node samples to be entered into the tiers of prizes.

There are two tiers of prizes that hunters can win.

Tier 1 prizes include:

  • Special Edition Nosler Model 48 in .28 Nosler, donated by RMEF, with a Leupold VX-5HD 3-15×44 rifle scope, donated by Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation

Prize Results

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department are planning to release the results of the prizes by March of 2022.  Hunters that win a tier one prize will no be eligible for a tier two prize.

“Hunters can learn how to take a sample by watching a how-to video on the Game and Fish website and submit it alongside the CWD data sheet,” Game and Fish said. “Hunters can also have animals sampled at any game check station this season or by stopping at the Game and Fish Headquarters or regional offices from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.”

The Wyoming Game and Fish are hoping the prizes listed above will incentivize hunters to submit their harvests for testing.  Would you submit your animal for testing?
