Tundra swans were poached in North Idaho, and their bodies were left to waste, which is against federal law. Idaho Fish and Game is urging the public to report any information about the incident. Poaching is not hunting; it is an illegal and unethical act of taking wildlife without following regulations and guidelines.
The six tundra swans were found in a private, flooded field approximately one mile upriver of Saint Maries on the Railroad Grade Road. The birds were killed during a closed season and were protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. This incident highlights the need for increased vigilance in protecting our natural resources and enforcing the law.
