Multiple agencies in Arizona have worked together to release 60 bighorns into historic ranges. Arizona Game and Fish Department officials along with volunteers gathered the sheep. They were captured from 2 separate populations in Arizona to supplement the release back into their native ranges. Radio collars were put on 10 sheep to assist AZGFD in tracking movements of the newly released population. Game and Fish agencies in multiple states go to great lengths every year to work on the growth of bighorn populations. Capturing and restoring populations where the sheep once roamed will preserve the species for our future generations. Maybe just maybe these animals won’t be a once in a lifetime hunt for our children and their children.
Get in touch with your local Game and Fish agency and become a volunteer. Not only are these projects fun but it is rewarding to know you are part of the solution.
