Seven commissioners of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department are each allocated with eight complimentary tags that are good statewide for elk, deer, and antelope. These tags are given to some non-conservation groups which ultimately don’t help the fish and game program as a result. A group called Mountain Pursuit recently released a 16-page report outlining the fundraising programs. They discuss in detail why this program is a waste of Wyoming resident’s money. They also list in detail some solutions to the problem and ways the money could be used more wisely.
The tags estimate bringing in over $1 million per year at auctions. The group is advocating that there needs to be more oversite of the program. Ensuring that the funds are going back into true conservation efforts. The department faces budget cuts each year and these extra funds could be the solution to those problems. Not to mention being able to hire more wildlife biologists and game wardens.
