The Wyoming mule deer study is now underway. Wyoming Game and Fish has captured 70 muley does and collared them for a migration study. The study stems from the Mule Deer Initiative. A program used to combat declining deer populations. Using net guns fired from helicopters to capture the pretty ladies, the biologists took samples and even did an ultrasound to examine body fat. The collars will transmit real-time data to researchers. In addition to the real-time data, the collars will store location information every 2 hours. The same does will be recaptured and studied again yearly. The goal is to identify why the mule deer population in the Upper Powder River Herd can’t reach carrying capacity of 18,000 animals.

Do you support using valuable hunting funds to complete these types of studies?
