BASS PRO PURCHASES SPORTSMANS WAREHOUSE – In the recent past, Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas joined forces. The parent company, Great American Outdoors Group, purchased the Cabela’s name a few years ago. The company is now expanding its footprint and is purchasing another large outdoor company.
Sportsman’s Warehouse
Sportsman’s Warehouse is a large outdoor recreation store with many locations across the country. Similar to Bass Pro Shops, they focus on outdoor sporting goods with a heavy focus on hunting and fishing.
The Utah based company is looking to better serve its customers by joining the Great American Outdoors Group. The driving force in combining the two companies is to broaden their footprint in competitive areas. As most hunters and outdoors enthusiasts know, the two entities cover a similar geographical territory. They also offer similar services. The joining of the two companies will allow them to build off of each other. It will also allow them to learn from one another to provide top-notch service to their patrons.
“We are excited to be joining the Great American Outdoors Group. This merger brings together the greatest brands in the outdoor industry. As we look to the future, the combined entities provide our passionate associates with greater opportunities to serve the outdoor enthusiast. I couldn’t be more proud of the nearly 8,000 Sportsman’s Warehouse associates and their success in building our brand over the last 33 years. We look forward to a smooth transition and building our partnership,” said Sportsman’s Warehouse CEO Jon Barker.
Transaction
The two companies will continue to work separately until the merger takes place. That merger is expected to happen sometime in 2021. They are shooting for quarter three or four. The Great American Outdoors Group was able to purchase the Sportsman’s Warehouse name for $18 per share.
What to Expect
Customers that shop at Bass Pro and Cabela’s will not see a difference in their shopping experiences. However, for those that shop at Sportsman’s Warehouse, they should see many improvements. Some of those improvements include improved pricing, larger inventory, and more variety in store.
Another large improvement will be the addition of vehicles to the store locations. Vehicles that will include boats, ATVs, UTVs and more.
Do you think that the merger will be good for both brands, or will there be some downfalls?
