EIGHT DEER POACHED IN UTAH – Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is looking for information regarding poaching cases in Wayne county. On Dec. 9th, UDWR received a call about activity from two weeks prior (Nov. 17 – 23). A truck had been near Foothill Drive, southeast of Lyman, Utah. The caller reported that the people inside the truck were shooting at deer in a hay field. Officers responded to the call and searched the area. During the search, two bucks and four does were found dead. As presumed, all six deer had been shot with a large caliber rifle and most had not moved far from the area they were shot. Subsequently, none of the meat or the heads had been removed.
Similar Poaching This Spring
After turning up no information, the November poaching case went cold. On March 28, an officer located two more poached deer. This time, the killing took place near the junction of Teasdale Road and Birch Creek Road, about 13 miles from where the November poaching took place. The deer were shot with a large caliber rifle. Similarly, both deer were also left to waste in the field. UDWR believes these deer were shot during the week of March 23rd and March 28th. Officers believe these two cases may be connected.
