ELDERLY HUNTER STILL MISSING IN COLORADO MOUNTAINS – 87-year-old Alvie Webb has been missing since October 19th. Webb was on an elk hunt with his family near Dolores, Colorado when he went missing. Search and rescue crews have been trying to find Webb with search crews, bloodhounds, and black hawk helicopters. Until this point, Webb has not been found. With no sign of Webb yet, and temperatures near 20 degrees, search and rescue crews will need to search harder and faster. At this time, the search and rescue hasn’t released any other information.
Dolores, CO is typically a friendlier place for hunters to venture in search of elk. According to HuntScore, Dolores scores an 80 out of 100 with the “Ease of Effort” being fairly high at 60%. With Colorado Elk season only being open for two weeks, the elk in the Doloroes’ zone shouldn’t have gone too far into the more rugged terrain due to low hunting pressure so far.
Hunting in the wild can be a dangerous activity. Earlier this month another hunter was tragically killed when a widow-maker fell and killed him in his sleep. Anytime you go out into the wild remember it is just that, wild. Take a buddy or at the very least your cell phone and/or GPS. Pack a small survival kit.
Not sure what to include? Montem has a simple list online. I had the opportunity to be a Boy Scout in my youth. The one thing Boy Scouts always taught me was to keep a CD in my bag. The CD allows you to reflect light towards search and rescue. The CD also allows you to see through the hole at where you are aimed.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Webb family. We will keep you updated as more news is released.
