The reintroduction of elk into the Missouri Ozarks have now exploded. 5 years in and the initial population of 107 has nearly doubled to 200 individuals. The Missouri Department of Conservation officials are hoping to allow elk hunts soon. Growing populations mean management is needed and what better way to manage then hunting? The added hunts are also a great way to add money back into the economy. Who knows, maybe the Ozarks will be the next coveted elk tag.
