With a decline in hunters purchasing licenses Colorado state lawmaker Hugh Mckean has an idea. Citing old Colorado school curriculum containing a class titled “conservation.” He wants to bring back that class in modern day schools. The class used to teach basic hunters education. In today’s learning environment the class would be an elective and would be a one day class. To avoid any anti-gun commentary McKean didn’t include any firearm instructions in the framework. This would allow parents to decide if their children are to learn about firearms or not. The class will be taught to 7th graders who elect to take it. The bill, HB 19-1116 will go before the committee soon, McKean anticipates failure to pass even with the support he has received.
Would you support “Conservation” in schools? Would you like to see other programs like this introduced?
