IDAHO FISH & GAME AQUIRE LARGE PUBLIC ACCESS – Idaho contains a large amount of public land for hunters and trappers to utilize. Recently, the Idaho Fish & Game were able to add to that already large amount of public land. The IFG were able to acquire some additional public access land located in the Bull’s Fork area.
AGREEMENT DETAILS
- The acquisition consists of 1,552 acres in the Tex Creek Wildlife Management area.
- The land will be open to the public for hunting and trapping.
- The funds for the acquisition came from an agreement between the Idaho Fish and Game and the Bonneville Power Administration.
Ryan Walker, Tex Creek Biologist stated, “Not only does the new property provide additional access to hunting opportunity, but it helps provide long-term protection of lands that are critical to maintaining migration pathways for mule deer and elk. It connects large portions of the surrounding public lands to several pieces of private property that are already enrolled in the Access Yes! program.”
The Access Yes! program is a great program that allows the public to use private property. This property can be used for hunting and trapping.
The Tex Creek Wildlife Management area consists of several different types of environments. From sage brush flats, to groves of aspen trees; it is a great place for several species of animals. Mule deer and elk being a large portion of those animals.
Public land is a hot topic across the entire United States. Hunters and conservationists are concerned with the loss of public land each year. The Trump Administration is pushing for increased public access land. To read more regarding these efforts, see our recent article. It is great to see state governments also take action to increase our opportunities as hunters.
Do you feel that this will improve opportunities for hunting in Idaho. Are you seeing other states do similar things?
