Misuse of public funds was uncovered after an audit by state officials. It was determined that the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife used taxpayer dollars for more than just state-approved purchases. According to state auditor Mike Harmon, KDFW received grant monies from public taxpayers and some of those dollars were spent illegally. Some of the findings including reimbursement of alcohol purchases, which is illegal. Money was also spent inappropriately to purchase meals for staff and volunteers at awards banquets. Then lastly funds were used to pay salaries to the states fish and wildlife foundation employees. More transparency is needed from KDFW going forward on funds being spent. Especially if they are true public taxpayers dollars at work.
