Imagine going for a nice afternoon jog and having a male mountain lion attack you from behind. This became a reality for a Colorado Man on Monday (2/4/19) at Horsetooth Mountain Park. The victim (name has not been released) was running alone on one of the trails when he heard the lion come from behind him.
The lion attacked, causing severe but not life-threatening injuries to the man. During the attack, he was able to fend off the lion and eventually suffocated the lion to death.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife Officers were able to recover the body of the lion, which was a juvenile male weighing approx 80lbs.
CPW said fewer than 20 fatal mountain lion attacks on humans have been reported in North America over the past 100 years. The attacks are few and far between. Mountain Lion attacks are far different than a bear attack. It is recommended that you make yourself as big as possible while slowly retreating. If an actual attack occurs, do anything and everything in your power to fight back!
Who here has had a close call with a lion?
