No one wants to be stuck between a momma bear and her cubs, and that’s where New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy finds himself, in a sense. There are 2 lawsuits in the court systems right now regarding New Jerseys December bear hunt. One lawsuit from hunters directly challenges Murphy’s decision to close 700k acres of public land to bear hunting. Effectively this is killing the bear season. The other lawsuit is from anti-hunting groups looking to get rid of the bear season altogether. A ruling on both cases will be set before opening day, December 3rd.
