West Virginia Department of Natural Resources is set to receive 18,778 acres of land in 2019. The lands will be converted into 5 new wildlife management areas and add to 5 other wildlife management areas in the state. The new tracts of land are expected to generate both economic and environmental benefits. Securing more public lands in a place with limited public access is a huge deal. The acquisition of the acreage will help conserve wildlife habitat and forever protect the lands. WVDNR currently has other WMA’s that are under lease so long-term conservation efforts are limited on those lands.
Its always good to see State Officials working towards better conservation and management of hunting land. Who wouldn’t want a whole bunch more land that is easily accessible to hunting? Kudos to West Virginia Department of Natural Resources and their efforts!
