This week we are talking with Rebecca. She’s a single mom from Colorado who isn’t your average Colorado hunter.
Check out her story
My name is Rebecca Sullivan. I live in Northern Colorado but was born and raised on the Western Slope. I am a single mama of three amazing teenagers. During the day, I am a warehouse manager & safety coordinator for an Electrical contractor in Loveland.
I started hunting with my dad and my grandpa. My earliest memories are rabbit hunting and chasing mule deer with my daddy. As an adult, my favorite species to hunt is a tie between whitetail and turkey. I love turkey hunting because nothing beats the sound of hearing the gobbler come into where you are. Whitetail is amazing because, well, that amazing buck fever when they walk out! I actually have more videos of deer than shots I’ve taken because I love watching them. They are amazing animals.
Archery is my favorite method of take.
Hunting with a bow put me somewhere I have never been before. I am constantly challenged with it and trying to better myself. Getting to shoot the bows in the back yard with the kids, is something I wouldn’t change for the world. Plus you get so much closer than a rifle shot.
Hunting is important to me for many reasons. First, since losing my parents, I truly feel closer to them when I am in the woods. Sitting in a tree stand, I feel like my daddy is sitting right next to me telling me to sit still or be quiet. Now I get to pass it on to my children. The hours I get to spend with them preparing for the hunt, as well as the actual hunt, are priceless. Being with them when they harvested their first animals is one of the proudest moments in my life.
My favorite thing about hunting is getting to experience it with my kids. Knowing my children have seen the food go from the field to the table, and hearing my son tell me that he just put food on the table when he harvested his first deer, is one of the most amazing things. And yes we hunt for food, but having that trophy buck walk out is a feeling like no other.
If a woman were to ask me why she should hunt I would say, because of the influence it has on her kids. I have shown my kids how to bring food from the field to the table. The emotions that run from harvesting an animal are incredible. And also knowing that I can do what the guys do, is a huge thing for me. It’s one of the reasons I work construction! Showing my daughter that women can do anything!!!!
