In an attempt to raise more money for land habitat programs, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department has introduced Hunting for Habitat. The program will offer all those that apply a chance at any elk, any deer, any antelope, and any turkey, all for 10 bucks. There will be 3 packages available. 2 for South Dakota residents and 1 non-resident winner. Prospective hunters can purchase as many applications as they want, each would be considered a raffle ticket to comply with state laws regarding raffles.
Other than elk, which state law declares only 1 elk tag per year, winners of the raffle could still put in for the other 3 species if they choose. All monies generated will directly go to land habitat programs on both public and private lands. Before this program could take effect a few laws would have to be amended, one being charging a fee for a big game application fee.
