Increasing deer populations in Colorado Springs, Colorado are damaging plant life and causing accidents. Like many areas of the United States, hunting in urban settings is heavily regulated if not downright banned. And partially for good reason. No one wants just any old yahoo running around the neighborhood hunting. Council members had discussed letting archers hunt in the city to help control populations, but have shelved the proposal for multiple reasons. One reason is the fear of a child seeing a shot deer spilling blood out on its way to die. The council members also agreed to have studies done to collect more data on the deer in the area. Over the next few years, those studies will be conducted and a vote will come then. Let’s hope the council dragging their feet on this issue doesn’t cause an overreaction later on that negatively affects the herd.
Do you agree or disagree with the council’s reasoning for banning urban hunting in this case?
